The PPF PostScript Prolog

The PPF PostScript Prolog is a tool to check Print Production Format (PPF) files. Together with a PPF file it can be sent to a PostScript Level 2 printer in order to print a short description of the content of the PPF file. The prolog is currently not supporting all features of PPF. But, if a PPF files passes the profile checks without errors, there is a good chance that it can also be processed by PPF applications.

The prolog is especially suited for checking the image orientations and encodings.

Please note that the current version of the prologue can only handle PPF version 2.1 files without PPF directories.

How to use the Prolog

Copy the prolog in front of your PPF file and then send the resulting file to a PostScript Level 2 printer. It then should print a protocol of the content of the PPF file. Instead of sending it to a printer, you can also use the Acrobat Distiller to create a PDF file containing the protocol.

For example, with MS-DOS type the following commands at the DOS prompt to print the protocol:

> copy cip3_pro.ini+yourfile.cip test.ps
> copy test.ps lpt1: /b

Download CIP3 PPF PostScript Prolog Version 1.22 (30-Nov-99).

Please feel free to contact the CIP4 Secretariat (CIP4 Secretariat secretariat@cip4.org) if you have any problems or suggestions regarding the PPF PostScript Prolog.
